The trading company Ipros from Iserlohn is going to Cologne with new ideas and more staff. The Junior Director Patrik Schneegaß answers questions about Usetec and about his own display plans.

Herr Schneegaß, it’s only a stone’s throw from Iserlohn to Cologne. What does it mean to you having the Usetec fair on your own doorstep?

For us Cologne is practically a home game, we will be at the new Usetec with a completely new stand philosophy and more staff. Now that IProS GmbH and Alltec-Trade have merged, we are in a better position to promote and increase the trade in used machines in our own company.
Your company has two large areas of activity: Used machines, and plant and appliances to do with cleaning technology. Both of these areas will be shown on Usetec. What is the significance of cleaning appliances on the used machine fair?
Used machines and machine cleaning systems represent the two biggest selling markets for our steamcleaner systems. Whoever buys or sells used machines, must of course keep these clean. Correct cleansing not only increases the value of a machine, but also enables defective parts or leakages to be easily detected, and thus prevents lengthy down times.
What is for you the advantage of the fact that there is only a short distance between the fair and your company headquarters in Iserlohn and the warehouse in Bochum?
This of course gives us the opportunity to take a customer who is interested in a machine to our warehouse where he can view it.
In the Usetec press release, your father talks about good business in India and increasingly also in Brazil. It is said that the Indians drive a very hard bargain and that Brazil has a very restricted attitude towards the import of machine tools. Is your experience different?
Because of the very long business relationship that my father has with India we have many regular customers there, and it is with these with whom we do most of our business. It can happen that we get enquiries from would-be customers in India who then immediately start to haggle over prices. But this is all part of the game, we all have to look after our own interests. Brazil is a very difficult market. However, when customers in that country are large enough and if they are in a position to help with the import formalities, it all works quite well.
How did you react to the announcement from Koelnmesse that the dates for the Usetec in the year to come have been brought forward to coincide with those of the Eisenwarenmesse? In the past it was always said that one could get more international visitors by coinciding with the Hanover Fair.
The last few years have shown us that only a few visitors to the Hanover Fair also visit the used machine fair. By linking the latter to the Eisenwarenmesse we expect more visitors because these two fairs complement each other, especially in the fields of tools and industrial equipment.
Your father manages the used machine business, while you look after the sales of plant and appliances for cleaning technology. In the not-too-far distant future there will need to be a handover – how do you and your father propose to manage this?
The handover will be very gradual. I am pleased that my father will be there to help me and I hope to be able to work together with him for many years to come. We are a good team, and together we want to move our company further forward.
