A retrofit package is now available to bring older cutting machines up-to-date and suitable for current and future requirements. The retrofit CNC control Vision 51R has been designed for the latest production processes and confers added value and increased productivity to existing cutting machines.

One of the leading manufacturers of cutting systems, the Esab Cutting Systems GmbH in Karben, offers all major cutting processes such as autogenous, plasma and laser. In addition, there are machines for marking and for bevel-cutting, as well as high-performance cutting software. Irrespective of whether we are talking about autogenous, plasma, or laser cutting systems, they can all be controlled by means of innovative control systems such as Vision 51, 52, or Vision T5. These represent the intelligent interface in the cutting process and make possible the productive use of the performance potential of the machines in question.

Using the new Retrofit Control Vision 51R users have access to the very latest developments in control offered by the manufacturer. Vision 51R was specially developed for simple retrofitting of older machines such as those of the autogenous, plasma and marking types, using a voltage of 230 VAC at 50/60 Hz, and equips these with an up-to-date variety of fittings and functions. In this way the working life of the cutting machines can be significantly lengthened.
Vision 51R has a modern control panel for faster and simpler operation, more data storage for interlocking and part data, as well as improved communication options including USB and Ethernet. In addition, it allows for a faster processing of usable interface packages for graphics, geometrics and calculations. Thanks to retrofitting with the latest control technology, costs and down time caused by the maintenance of old systems are avoided due to prefabricated and directly usable interface packages.
„Vision 51R supports all modern drive- and plasma cutting systems“, explains Thomas Kilb, Vision Project Manager at Esab Cutting Systems. It is a perfect example of variety in fitting and function. Even under continuous use this compact retrofitted control guarantees reliability in a reproducible quality and close control of all processes. „Short delivery and fitting times due to standard packages ensure rapid application“, says Kilb.
Vision 51R can, in addition, be adapted to local conditions using a wide range of optional packages. For example, the manufacturer offers a cooling and heating unit covering –10 °C to + 55°C, an optical tracer including hard- and software as well as predesigned network cables with a length of up to 150 m. Furthermore, it is possible to download cutting programs with the new UDL/PPT/XON/XOFF hard- and software interface as well as using a conventional DNC interface. „The bottom line is that the user gets with Vision 51R an innovative control system which gives the existing cutting machines the level of ,fitness‘ which they require in order to match up to the current higher demands of performance, productivity and quality“, explains Thomas Kilb. „A comprehensive service coupled with availability of spare parts enables even older machines to cope with future production processes.“ Lb
