Hommel converts “scrap iron” into cash

Generous disposal bonuses for old machines
Hommel converts “scrap iron” into cash

Every crisis also offers opportunities, of course. And those with entrepreneur blood in their veins will use the quiet times, for example, to modernise their machinery. The Hommel Group pays upon the purchase of every new CNC machine for the simultaneous scrapping of old machines.

The sales of machine tools have nearly collapsed. Therefore the delivery times for machine tool manufacturers are shorter than they’ve been for a very long time and the great savings now available mean reduced investment costs.

The environmental bonus (“Abwrackprämie”) for cars has developed into an effective buying incentive. Gisbert Krause, the Managing Director of the Hommel Group, one of the largest dealership and service companies for CNC machine tools in Germany, says, “This success is reason enough to also make the decision to invest in new CNC machines easier for our customers with a scrapping bonus for old machines. We have developed the bonus model in close cooperation with our suppliers. With this concerted action, we can grant an optimal buying incentive for every old machine which is given to us for scrapping when a new machine is purchased.”
The requirements and conditions are simple and the process is unbureaucratic: The Hommel offer of a disposal bonus applies to all CNC and NC controlled machine tools as well as to cross-grinding machines built from 1980 to 1996. The brand and the respective manufacturer are irrelevant. The disposal bonus (net value, without value added tax) depends on the actual final price of the new machine, whereby the legally binding order must be placed between April 1, 2009, and September 30, 2009.
The old machine must naturally not be subject to any third party claims. A Hommel field service employee will then inspect the old machine beforehand on site to determine whether it is functional but without noting defects. Furthermore, the old machine must be free of chips, oils, greases and cooling lubricants as well as be delivered by the owner to the Bochum plant. Alternatively, Hommel can take care of the pickup for just the net costs.
How much the disposal bonus will be is determined by the qualified Hommel field service employee individually during the on-site inspection appointment. Depending on the type of new machine as well as the year of construction of the old machine, the disposal bonus can amount to up to 10% of the purchase price of the new machine.
The following three examples are intended to give an idea of how large the bonuses can be. Please note that these examples are non-binding and VAT has to be added: For the purchase of a new machine with a value of €66,990 (for example, Sunnen ML 2000) the disposal bonus for an old machine built between 1980 and 1990 would be the tidy sum of €4,019.40; for “old-timers” built between 1991 and 1996, the bonus would climb to €4,689.30. For a new machine purchase price of €175,000.00 (e.g. an Okuma LU300-M-SC600 with options) Hommel will pay a corresponding bonus of €11,375 to €14,000.00. And customers who order a new machine from Hommel for €580,000.00 (e.g. a Nakamura-Tome Super NTJX), turn their old-timers into 36,540 or even 45,240 euros when they sign the contract.
Alternatively to offsetting the bonus price against the price of the new machine, Hommel will also pay out the disposal bonus (if desired) on a separate customer invoice as soon as the purchase price for the new machine has been paid.
Gisbert Krause: “We calculate the disposal bonus on the basis of the actual final purchase price of the new machine. That means the credit voucher is a real additional purchase incentive. Together with our numerous attractive financing models, our customers can modernise their machinery with the most up-to-date technology for seldom-seen low prices until the end of September.”
